- What can and can't I bring in my move to Spain?
- There are restrictions on certain foods, plants, medications, and animal-origin products. For household items and personal belongings, the standard process is the change-of-residence exemption, which allows you to import used goods without customs duties if you meet the requirements. Aedara coordinates with the customs agent to ensure everything enters correctly.
- Do I need to pay customs duties on my belongings when entering Spain?
- If you meet the requirements for change of habitual residence — you've lived outside the EU for at least twelve months and are moving to Spain permanently — you can import your personal belongings exempt from customs duties and VAT. The process requires specific documentation that Aedara manages with the customs agent.
- How long does an international move take?
- It depends on the country of origin and type of transport. By sea from the US, typically four to eight weeks. By air, one to two weeks, but at significantly higher cost and with volume limitations. Aedara helps you weigh the options based on your arrival date and what you need available from day one.
- Can Aedara also manage my departure from Spain?
- Yes. If you decide to return to your home country at some point, Aedara coordinates the cancellation of utilities, deregistration from the padrón, closure of services, and if needed, coordination of the return move.
