Boadilla del Monte and Majadahonda: Where International Families Live

4 min read

When international families explore the western corridor of Madrid, Boadilla del Monte and Majadahonda invariably appear in the comparison. Both municipalities combine exceptional quality of life, good schools, natural spaces, and an established family community at prices more accessible than Pozuelo de Alarcón or La Moraleja.

Boadilla del Monte: space, parks and tranquillity

Boadilla del Monte is about 20 kilometres south-west of Madrid, next to the A-5 and M-501 motorways. It is one of the municipalities with the greatest number of parks and green spaces per inhabitant in the Community of Madrid. The Monte de Boadilla nature area, Boadilla lagoon, and its urban parks make this an ideal environment for families with children.

Who lives here: Boadilla primarily attracts Spanish and international families who prioritise space, nature, and tranquillity over proximity to the city centre. It is not particularly dynamic for cultural life or nightlife, but for raising children it is highly valued.

Schools: Boadilla has a quality educational offering with well-regarded state-subsidised bilingual schools. There are no international schools with American or British curricula within the municipality, but the American School of Madrid (Pozuelo) is 10–15 minutes by car.

Property prices: Detached and semi-detached houses in Boadilla are comparatively more affordable than in Pozuelo or Majadahonda. Four-to-five bedroom houses with gardens range from €350,000 to €700,000. Monthly rent runs €1,800–3,500. Flats in the town centre are priced €2,500–3,500/m².

Majadahonda: quality urbanism and a consolidated community

Majadahonda is about 15 kilometres north-west of Madrid, near the A-6 and very close to Las Rozas and Pozuelo. It is one of the municipalities with the highest per-capita income in the Community of Madrid, with well-maintained streets, quality shops, an excellent restaurant scene, and a community of highly educated, high-income residents.

Who lives here: Majadahonda has an interesting mix of high-earning Spanish families and a growing international community, particularly executives at multinationals based in Madrid. The municipality has an active town life without losing the feel of a small city.

Schools: Majadahonda has very well-regarded bilingual schools and ranks near the top in regional education tables. There are no purely international schools within the municipality, but access to the American School (Pozuelo, 5–10 minutes) and Las Rozas schools is straightforward.

Property prices: Majadahonda sits between Boadilla (cheaper) and Pozuelo (more expensive). Flats are priced €3,000–4,500/m². Detached and semi-detached houses run €500,000–1,200,000. Monthly rent for a family home (three to four bedrooms) ranges €1,800–3,500.

Quick comparison

| Variable | Boadilla | Majadahonda | Las Rozas | Pozuelo | |---|---|---|---|---| | Property price | Lower | Mid | Mid | Higher | | Green spaces | Exceptional | Good | Very good | Good | | Town life | Quiet | Active | Active | Active | | Motorway access | A-5/M-501 | A-6 | A-6 | A-6 | | Metro | No | Yes (Line 10) | Yes (Line 10) | Yes (Line 10) |

The absence of a metro in Boadilla is a notable limitation: mobility relies almost entirely on car or bus. For families with a car who do not need public transport for daily commuting, this is not a problem. For those who depend on public transport to get to work, Majadahonda, Las Rozas, or Pozuelo are more practical choices.

Connections to Madrid

Boadilla: Mainly by car. The A-5 and M-501 connect to Madrid in 25–40 minutes depending on traffic. There are intercity bus lines, but frequency does not compare to the metro.

Majadahonda: Metro Line 10. Journey to central Madrid in 30–40 minutes. By car on the A-6, 20–30 minutes.
